Brother Dwayne Andrew Thomas was born on May 20, 1962 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the eldest son of Mrs. Ola Black Thomas and the late Mr. Andrew V. Thomas. Dwayne picked up his purchased salvation ticket in 1992 and redeemed that ticket on January 12, 2022. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Mr. Clifford Black and Mrs. Louise Black-Cunningham, paternal grandparents, Mr. Major and Mrs. Ella Mae Thomas Sr., and sisters, Ms. Kathy Y. Thomas and Ms. Shirley J. Dawkins.
Dwayne was a graduate of Gettys D. Broome High School and married Mrs. Carrie Blackwell Thomas on January 28, 1995. He was the founding pastor of Believers Refuge Ministry the owner and operator of Thomco Services, LLC, and enjoyed breeding German Shepherd and Schnauzer dogs. Dwayne was a long time contractor of Kings Asphalt of Liberty, SC, where his CB handle was “Sugar Bear.” He considered the many dear people from that company, not as business partners, but as family. Dwayne never met a stranger but just another member of the great family of God. He loved pouring into his nieces and nephews and always felt compelled to share the Lord and a bit of his wisdom with all he contacted.
He leaves to cherish loving memories, in addition to his wife and his mother, children: Ms. Patience Moriah Thomas and Mr. Jonathan Micaiah Thomas, both of the home; sisters: Mrs. Cynthia T. Lomotey-Nakon, Evang. Vanessa Thomas Morman and Ms. Pamela A. Thomas- Sartor, all of Spartanburg, SC; brother: Mr. Karl Michael Thomas of Atlantic City, NJ; brother- in-law, Mr. Solomon Lomotey-Nakon; aunts: Mrs. Effie T. Minter, Mrs. Joyce T. Hughes, Mrs. Mary T. Gist, Mrs. Thelma T. (Roy) Logan, Mrs. Linda T. (Elliot) Long, Mrs. Louise P. Thomas, Mrs. Helen B. Smith, and Mrs. Pauline M. Black; uncles: Elder Fred (Belinda) Thomas, Mr. Doug (Carrie) Thomas, SMSgt (Ret.) Joseph L. (Nettie) Black and Mr. Grover Meadows; great-uncle, Mr. Izell (Rev. Bessie) Black; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6 pm until 7 pm in the John Stinson Woodward Chapel. Services are planned for Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 12 noon at Macedonia Baptist Church, 502 S Daniel Morgan, Avenue, Spartanburg, SC. Interment at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 3105 Jerusalem Road, Pacolet, SC.
