Obituary For Esther McAdoo

Esther Mae McAdoo entered into eternal rest with her loving husband, John, at her side on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Physical Rehabilitation Wellness Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Esther was a strong and brave woman, who fought a long battle with health issues for many years. Esther was born on July 13, 1935 in Hickory, North Carolina (Catawba County) to the late Muriel Rose Gardner Washburn and Edward “Preach” Barbour. She received her education in Hickory North Carolina Public School System. Esther met the love of her life, John Henry McAdoo and they were married on May 29, 1960. They were married sixty years until the time of her death. Esther loved children and worked as a daycare assistant from time to time. She loved her show, “Walker Texas Ranger” and the main character, actor Chuck Norris. Esther also loved basketball. Her favorite team was Duke University and the men’s head basketball coach, Mike Krzyzewski. Esther would “light up” when she talked about Coach Krzyzewski and her Duke team. Esther was a devoted wife, daughter, and sister. She leaves to cherish her memories to: her husband, John Henry McAdoo of Spartanburg, SC; brothers-in-law, Walker “Leroy” McAdoo (Linda) and James “Alec” McAdoo (Carol); sisters-in-law, Nancy Carol and Irene McAdoo; her special niece, Kecia Greene; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends as well as her childhood best friend and cousin, Irene Hester. Esther was preceded in death by: her parents, Muriel Rose Gardner Washburn and Edward “Preach” Barbour, as well as her brothers, Herman, Dwight, Aljolson and Curly Washburn; and her brother-in- law, Charles McAdoo.

A Celebration of the Life of Esther Mae McAdoo will be held today, Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC.
