Ethel Gaither Littlejohn peacefully passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Hospice House at the age of 96. Born Ethel Lee Gaither on December 21, 1925, she was a native of Roanoke, VA. Mrs. Littlejohn was preceded in death by her husband, Horace C. Littlejohn, Sr.
She was a 1945 graduate of Lucy Addison High School.
Ethel was a member of First Worship Church of Spartanburg where she was a founding member and served a number of years as an Usher, member of the Trustee Board, Willing Workers, and most recently, mother of the church.
She retired from Raycord Shirt Factory after 20 years as a sewing machine operator.
She is survived by: her brother, Junius Gaither of Roanoke, VA; her children, Ethel G. Bonds (Frank) of Roanoke, VA, Horace C. Littlejohn, Jr., retired Lt.Col USAF (J. Ruth) of Spartanburg, SC, William H. Littlejohn, Sr., retired SMSGT USAF (Sara) of Newport News, VA, Jacquelyn D. Davis of Spartanburg, SC, Wallace O. Littlejohn, retired SMSGT USAF (DeBorah) of Yorktown, VA, and Valerie L. Giddings (Ronald) of Clemmons, NC; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other devoted relatives.
A Homegoing Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at First Worship Church, 504 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2256 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.
