Mrs. Geneva Evelyn Mae Gray was born May18,1934, in East Preston, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Daniel W. Gray and Mary L. (Clayton) Gray.
She grew up in East Preston attending Partridge River Elementary School and later Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where upon graduation became the first person from East Preston to graduate High School.
Mrs. Gray taught Elementary School at Partridge River until she met Paul Nehemiah Gray an American Serviceman of the United States Navy, from South Carolina, on leave in Halifax. They were married April 22, 1953, in East Preston at the home of her parents.
Mrs. Gray moved to Boston, Mass., where her husband was stationed, and where five of her six
children were born. The family moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1960, where the six child was born and the children were raised, but always going back to spend time in Canada visiting family and friends. Mrs. Gray lived at the home in Fairforest until her passing. Mrs. Gray was predeceased by her husband of almost 30 years Paul N. Gray, and sons Paul E.
Gray, and Kevin A. Gray.
She is survived by sons, Rev Darryl G. (Sonya) Gray, St. Louis, Missouri, Rev. Glenn D. Gray, Spartanburg, daughters Valerie L. Gray, Spartanburg, Shawna L. Cohen, Gaffney, and daughter-in-law Sandra N. Gray, Columbia, S.C. Twenty-nine grandchildren, eighty-one great- grandchildren, forty-six great-great grandchildren. Special thanks to granddaughter Latasha Duzant and the Duzant family, and life-long friend, Mrs.Virginia Geter.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1:00pm at New Bedford Baptist Church, 210 New Bedford Church Road, Campobello, SC.
