Mr. Gist Lee Tucker, Sr. was born on April 24, 1943 and he entered eternal rest on December 19, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Nancy Lee Hollis Tucker and the son of the late Mr. Gist Tucker and Mrs. Gertrude Miller Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a retired Security Guard at the Westgate Mall of Spartanburg after working over 30+ years at MEAD Container of Spartanburg. Preceding his career at MEAD, he is also known for his managerial role at the Butte Knitting Mill company of Spartanburg. He was a faithful member of Sigsbee Church of Christ. He was a proud member of the Prince Hall Freemasons of Spartanburg.
Mr. Tucker was a strong, loving, and dedicated Father and Grandfather. Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Keenon. He is however survived by three sisters, Mrs. Cora Lee McDowell, Rosa Mae Roberson (James), and Eloise Jones (Gerald); two brothers, Joe Tucker, and Robert Tucker (Sarah) all of Spartanburg, SC. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: one daughter, Mrs. Sabrina Tucker Means (Arthur); four sons, Van Stewart (Sonji), Gist Tucker, Jr. (Andrea), Kent Tucker, and Shawn Tucker (Erica) all of Spartanburg, SC; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mr. Gist Tucker was truly the Patriarch of the family, being an example of strength, faith, and love. He touched the lives of many and leaves his legacy of unwavering leadership and support to his family and friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Gist L. Tucker, Sr. will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Sigsbee Church of Christ, 214 Parker Dr., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC.
To the family of Gist Lee Tucker: you have my deepest sympathy for the loss of Brother Tucker. I worked with him and under his supervision in 1968 as a yarn man on the third shift at Butte knitting mill. I Always had the upmost respect for him. Rest in peace my brother for a life well lived.
