Obituary For Helen Rougley Stewart

Pacolet, SC- Helen Rougley Stewart, 64, passed on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. She was born to Katie Mae Jones and the late Matthew Williams on July 10, 1953 in Madison, AR. Following high school, Helen joined the Job Corps in Astoria, OR. She then joined the Army where she supported Military Intelligence, and was honorably discharged from the Army in January of 1973. Family, cooking and music were Helen’s passion and delight. She spent hours laughing and chatting on the phone with family and friends; telling stories and keeping up with who was doing what. Family celebrations with Helen were so much fun and enjoyable because of her love for family and the way she always brought a smile to their faces with her favorite stories and loud laughter. Helen’s enjoyment and love for cooking expanded into owning a few local restaurants. While many cooks would have to go to school to master the art of cooking, Helen did not have to. She was born with a God-given talent to cook, a skill that she passed along to her daughters. She enjoyed the fact that many people were able to sample the love that she put into her food. Helen was also a very active parent and was well known in her daughters’ schools. For many years, even after her children had graduated, Helen was involved in the local high school band, helping students and even chaperoning trips. There are many band students that loved their trips to Disney World all because Helen was a chaperone. Helen is survived by: her husband, James “Bo” Stewart of Pacolet, SC; her mother, Katie Mae Jones of Forrest City, AR; her daughters, Angel Adams (Nathan) of Indian Trail, NC, Cynthia “JoJo” Hamilton (Deon) of Charlotte, NC and Vanessa Smith (Rickey) of Greensboro, NC; her sisters, Tempie Brown and Doris (Larry) McShan; her brother, Jim Bailey, Jr. all of Forrest City, AR; her nine grandchildren; and numerous loving relatives and friends. A Celebration of the Life of Helen Rougley Stewart will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany A.M.E. Church, 137 Bethany Rd., Jonesville, SC. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family wishes to thank all of you for your care and support. Your kindness, words or encouragement and presence will never be forgotten. J. W.
