John Mills, of Spartanburg, South Carolina (S.C.), transitioned peacefully on February 6, 2025. He was born December 12, 1948, in Fairfield, S. C. After graduating High School, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served his country proudly for four years. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, he worked at Beaumont Mills in Spartanburg, S.C., for over 25 years. During his time at Beaumont Mills, he met Jessie, and they were soon married and started their new life together. He and Jessie were married 42 years and reared two children. John led the life of a devoted husband and loving father, retiring from Spartan Steel after a 10-year career, he found happiness spending his days with his family cooking on the grill, working in his garden, and sharing his wisdom and life experiences with his children.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Lee and Catherine Mills, and a brother William Thomas Mills. He is survived by his wife Jessie Mills, one daughter Jessica Mills (Boiling Springs), one son Christopher Mills (Boiling Springs), one granddaughter Aaliyah Mills (Spartanburg), sisters Mary Frances White, Stella Willingham, brother Eugene Mills, Aunt Pearlette Stephen and a host of nieces, and nephews and other relatives.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all medical staff who cared for John.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 14, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, S.C. Burial at Green Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery 2382 Coxe Road Tryon, NC 28782.
