God tenderly called His child, John Gregory Williams, from an earthly work to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 after a brief illness. Born on March 22, 1954, he was the son of Rev. Angel and Pastor Albert Savage of Atlanta, Georgia and the eldest of four children. They fondly recall that would tell them he was “the man of the house”.
He was a graduate of J.C. Murphy High School in Atlanta, Georgia. After high school, however, John served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps. serving extended tours in Okinawa, Japan. Upon returning to the states, he enrolled in Devry Institute where he studied Electronics. Because of his introduction to travel in the military, he spent several years as a private contractor working as a fiber optic technician with various companies in the United States as well as in Iraq and Afghanistan.
John was a quiet but passionate member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. His hobby rested in his love for motorcycles. He was a charter member of the Spartanburg Buffalo Soldiers Moto Cycle Club and was known to many of his closest friends as “Skeeter”. He has ridden many miles, going across country at least twice. John, Greg, Skeeter – all three names are synonymous with the person who loved life, loved his wife, loved his family and who lived abundantly.
He is survived not only by his parents, but by his loving life partner and wife, Tonie Edwards Williams; his sister, Reggie Renee’ Gholston of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Elmer L. Savage and Terrance A. Savage of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Celebration of a Life Well Lived for John Gregory Williams will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 502 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., Spartanburg, SC. Livestream will be available at: Facebook.com/mmbcsc.org
