Josephine Duncan Mayes SPARTANBURG, SC-- Josephine Duncan Mayes, 87, of 101 Marion Avenue, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. She was born on April 15, 1930 to the late Spencer and Josephine Sims Duncan; she was a native of Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Mrs. Mayes was the widow of Mr. Willie Carl Mayes. Mrs. Mayes was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to her children: Hattie Mayes, Joann (Bennie) Drummond and Deborah (Stanley) Wynn both of Spartanburg, SC; her brothers, Gene James, Vernon (Sylvia) Smith and Carl Anthony Mayes all of Spartanburg, SC; her sister, Emma Rice of Spartanburg, SC; her sister- in- law, Loree Duncan of Spartanburg, SC; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Mayes. A Celebration of the Life of Josephine Duncan Mayes will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 445 S Church St, Spartanburg, SC. The Reverend Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy will officiate. Interment will be in the Good Shepard Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Road., Boiling Springs, SC. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Ms. Hattie Mayes, 144 Raintree Dr., Spartanburg, SC.
