Obituary For Joy Bredwood
Joy Bredwood, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother cousin and cherished friend, passed away on April 2, 2026.
Joy was born on November 26, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies to Walter and Gertrude Bredwood . She migrated to the United States as a child with her mother after her father passed away.
Joy attended William Taft High School, earned her GED, then attended City College of New York. Joy worked as a CNA at Elmhurst Hospital, Queens N.Y. where she cared for those in need.
She was later employed with the United States Postal Service where she was a dedicated employee.
Joy believed loving GOD, a good education and ambition were the keys to a good life and she worked tirelessly to give that to her children. By God’s Grace all of her children were able to thrive, some attaining high levels of academia and/or vocational skills by God’s continued Grace her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are following suit.
She also pursued her love for education at various community programs and workshops.
She devoted much of her life to helping friends and families in NYC and the Spartanburg SC area gain access to educational opportunities, housing programs and resources to uplift themselves.
She was known as “Miss Joy” because she was able to find programs of all types ,food, furniture and clothing for everyone.
A woman of faith, Joy attended various non-denominational churches. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in the love and compassion that she showed to everyone she encountered.
She will be remembered most for her warm spirit and radiant smile—one that could truly light up any room. She had a gift for making others feel seen, welcomed, and loved, and her presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.
Joy leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters Natasha Barthwell and Neema Bredwood; her sons, Cadman Williams Jr. and Adom Kellerman; her son-in-law, Darryl Barthwell; her granddaughters, Tiana Outlaw and Nariah Williams; great-grandchildren Chase Outlaw, Aubrey Browning, Tru Young; cousins Carmen Foster and Tanesha Hunter, Pamela Bryan, and a host of other family and friends.
Joy’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, April 10, 2026 at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2026 at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
