Aunt Mabel planted the seed of higher education by exposing me to college life at SC State University, when I was in junior high school. Upon Aunt Mabel’s invitation, Aunt Ethel transported Sandra, Odester, Johnsey, Toni, and I to a SC State Homecoming celebration. I think we were all mesmerized by the band’s extraordinary performance during half-time. Who cared about football I didn’t want the band to stop :). Before one of our meals, she gave us all a tutorial on proper place setting and use of silverware. Upon returning to school, I was the only student in Home Economics class who knew how to hold a knife and fork correctly to cut meat....thanks to Aunt Mabel. I will always be grateful for how she led by example and unselfishly poured into us over the years.
Love, Karen
