Mary Alice Porter Pruitt was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Herbert and Rose Porter. Mrs. Pruitt was the widow of John Henry Pruitt.
She attended Spartanburg County Schools.
Mary was employed with Kohler and as a domestic worker for many years.
Mrs. Pruitt was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she served for over sixty years as the oldest member of the Usher Board, Secretary of Sunday School Class, a member of the Missionary, and Ward 4.
She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Mrs. Pruitt was a loving and caring individual who was always willing to help others. Mary was always full of joy and laughter. Mrs. Pruitt also loved fashion and cooking for others.
Mary was preceded in death by: three sons, John Robert Pruitt, Altroy "Flute" Pruitt and Tyrone Pruitt; one daughter, Mickie Pruitt Ray; five sisters, Wilma Porter, Cannary Porter, Dasie Porter, Peggy Tolliver and Corine Lumpkin; and five brothers, Herbert Porter, Eugene Porter, Willis Porter, Davis Porter and Charles Lee Porter.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her grandchildren, Anquell (Marie) McCollum, Thomas "TJ" Hicks, Tyronda (Markeith) Meadows, Yolanda (Bobby) Thompson, Claudine Pearson and Kawanna Bennett; her brother, Melvin (Lauryn) Porter; her sister, Diane Porter; her great grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Mary Alice Porter Pruitt will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 502 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be held in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC.
As a young girl I LOVED Mary Alice very much. She was a very attractive woman and very nice and heart felt person...RIH QUEEN! CYNT AND FAMILY
Mary Alice was always a special part of the staff of Drs. Herbert and Sereque. She always had the biggest smile and enjoyed life! So sad to hear of her passing, but so fortunate to have known her. Linda L. Burns
