Obituary For Millie Surratt

Spartanburg, SC – Mrs. Millie Williams Smith Surratt, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and caring sister was born December 5, 1941 to the late Mr. Arthur and Hattie L. Gilyard Williams. On April 25, 2015 Millie departed this life and went home to be with the Lord. Millie was born the second of five children in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Carver High School, Class of 1960. She was employed with Butte Knitting Mill, Fallon, and a Licensed Cosmetologist. . Millie was a born again Christian, saved, sanctified, Holy-Ghost filled and fire baptized woman who truly loved the Lord. She had a passion for cooking and operated in the spirit of hospitality in serving God's people. She served as a faithful member at Bethel Holiness Church, later joining Cornerstone Baptist Church where she was a devoted member serving on the mass choir. Millie's jovial spirit drew others to her. Millie believed that God would not put no more on you, than you can bear; so she stayed in the race with her head lifted high. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish fond memories: her loving daughters, Mrs. Theresa (Bobby) Nelson, Mrs. Bonita (Jeffrey Sr.) Porter; her devoted son, Mr. James (Melissa) Smith, Jr.; her nieces and nephew reared in the home, Francina Davis, Kimberly (Dwight) Boyd, and Zabrian Rowland; step-children, Alice Williams, Diane Fowler and James (Carrie) Surratt, III; her sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Betty Williams, Mary Louise (Roosevelt) Thomas, and Mary E. Byrd; her nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and dear friends. Mrs. Surratt was preceded in death by her spouse, Mr. James Surratt; her twin sister, Mrs. Lillie Davis; her sister, Ms. Lula Baker; and Brother in law, Mr. Ernest Johnson. A Celebration of the Life of Millie Williams Smith Surratt will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 700 S. Converse St., Spartanburg, SC. Bishop Charles J.J. Jackson, III will officiate. Interment will be held in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC. The family will receive friends at the home, 130 Brandywine Ln., Spartanburg, SC.
