Spartanburg, SC – Otis Kerns, 89, of 373 Lake Forest Drive, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 14, 2014. Otis was a native of Union County, SC; he was the son of the late Mr. Willie Smith Kerns and Mrs. Queen Ester Browning Kerns. Mr. Kerns was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Teamer Kerns. Mr. Kerns was a member of Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church for many years, where he served on the Deacon Ministry, the All-Male Choir and the Bus Ministry. Otis was a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Kerns retired from Arrow Automotive Industries in 1990 after 23 years of service. Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves to cherish fond and lasting memories: his children; Odell (Claretta) Kerns of Duncan, SC, Brenda Lorene Kerns, Thomas Edward (Faye) Kerns, Greta Jane Kerns all of Spartanburg, SC and Otis Samuel Kerns of Kew Gardens, NY; his sister, Emma Geter; his brothers Jessie (Melba) Kerns and Luther Kerns both of Spartanburg, SC; his grandchildren, Lynnell (Jackie) Lawson, Sean (Felecia) Kerns, Odell (Nakia) Kerns, Jr., Koretta (Derrick) Parker, Jessica (Chris) Minor, Derrick Pearson, Rachel Kerns and Dana Haywood; his seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Otis was preceded in death by his daughter, Carissa Beth Kerns; his sisters, Ruby Pearl Kerns Miller and Jennie Ruth Kerns Teamer; his brothers, Willie, Arthur, Roosevelt, Charlie and Reverend Jimmy C. Kerns. A Celebration of the Life of Mr. Otis Kerns will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369. Mr. Kerns will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Reverend Henry E. Kerns will officiate. Interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will receive friends at the home. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
