Obituary For Mr. Willie Brown

NEW BERN, NC-- Mr. Willie Brown, transitioned to his eternal heavenly home from the Crystal Coast Hospice on December 8th, 2016. Born to the parents of Mr. Will and Blanch Settles Brown, and the son of George Lyons, he began his earthly life on September 6, 1930 in McCormick, South Carolina. After the death of his mother, Blanch, he was reared by his aunt and uncle, George and Julia Dowtin in Troy, South Carolina. He attended Felton School in Troy. He was retired from BOSH, USA. After becoming an adult, Willie moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he met and married Bertha White, and to that union, two children were born, Eva Mitchell and Christopher Brown. He is survived by two sons, Reverend J. Archie Calhoun, (Rubye), of Spartanburg, SC and Christopher Brown, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, two daughters, Eva Mitchell (Kerry) of New Bern and Jacqueline Webb of Jacksonville, NC. One son, Larry Wideman, preceded him in death. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Gladys Brown of Greenwood, SC and his last surviving first cousin, Sarah Farley of Greenville, SC. Mr. Brown also grew up with one brother and one sister, Douglas Brown and Julia Mae Leverette, both deceased, and during his life, he came to know 14 half brothers and sisters, 4 of whom still survive, Ruth Lyons Timms, Mary Lyons Madden, Joseph Lyons and Walter Lyons, all of Laurens, SC. Other Survivors include 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Monday, December 19th from 6:00 until 7:00 at the mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Dayspring Christian Center, 1246 Pollock Street, New Bern, North Carolina. Pastor P. O. Rodgers will officiate. Burial will be in the Dillahunt Family Cemetery in New Bern.
