Obituary For Mrs. Martha Evans

Spartanburg, SC – Martha Ann Kennedy Evans, 95, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Mrs. Evans was the daughter of the late Edmond Kennedy and Martha Allen Kennedy. Mrs. Evans was the widow of Wilson Shippy Evans. Martha was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People under the leadership of the late Bishop C.M. Grace during the 1950’s. She was a pillar in the church where she served in many capacities: President of Presidents, Church Treasurer, Announcer, served on the Queen Board, member of the Sunday School class, Sympathy Club and Senior Choir member of the United House of Prayer for All People. Martha was a willing worker in any capacity needed. Mrs. Evans was known for her generosity throughout the community and in the church. She opened the doors of home to everyone. Her love for the elderly and young did not go unnoticed and will truly be missed. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her son, Ronnie Evans; her five daughters, Vernice M. Moore, Barbara A. McDowell, Sandra A. Kelly, Catherine M. (Kenneth) Tillerson and Amanda Garrett (Stephon) Jeter; her thirteen grandchildren; her seventeen great-grandchildren; her close cousin, Mamie who has been so caring across the miles; her caring niece, Toni Cureton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cherished relatives and dear friends. Martha was preceded in death by: her daughter, Martha Jean Powell; her brother, John Kennedy; her four sisters; Nellie Smith, Lula Mae Evans, Alice Hunt and Louvenia Bryant; her nephew, Mack Evans; her nieces; Evelyn Lester and Louise Elder. A Celebration of the Life of Saint Martha Ann Kennedy Evans will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at The United House of Prayer for All People, 660 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC. Apostle Douglas Styles will officiate. Interment will be held in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC. Friends and Family Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
