Obituary For Mrs. Sabra Rice

Sabra Rogers Rice Sabra Rogers Rice, 96, departed this life December 9, 2011 at Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home of Amherst, Virginia.Born 22 April 1915 in Cherokee County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John William Rogers and Emelia Jane Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven William Rice. Ten siblings also preceded her in death: Eloise Rogers Woodward (Will), Lillie Mae Rogers Shippy (Ernest), Eddie Cleveland Rogers (Weneva), Charlie Edward Rogers, Georgia Sue Rogers Remtelakis (Alex), Dean Rogers, William Leonard Rogers (Lucy), George Rogers (Elnora), James Theodore Frederick Rogers, and Horace Rogers (Bessie). She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Margaret Coleman, Cleveland, Ohio; Earl William Rice, Baltimore Maryland; Dr. Horace R. Rice and wife Gloria, Madison Heights, Virginia; Mary Ann Yancey and husband James, Atlanta, Georgia; and Gloria Jean Alston, Roselle, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.Sabra Rice was a faithful member and Mother of the Church at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Pacolet, SC, until her illness in 2006, when she moved to Virginia. She also was a member of Gethsemane's Missionary Ministry for many years and a member of the Sunday School. She always looked forward to participating in the daily senior activities with her friends at Pacolet's T.W. Edwards' Senior Citizen Center. A eulogistic service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Pacolet (Spartanburg County), SC., with Reverend Charles Walker, officiating and eulogist. Interment will follow at New Salem Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 16, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., at The J. W. Woodward Funeral Home in Spartanburg, SC. In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church's Building Fund.
