SPARTANBURG, SC- Mrs. Virginia Marie Watson Dover, 88, of 624 Massachusetts Blvd., peacefully entered rest on Monday, September 29, 2014. Virginia was the daughter of the late Earnest and Lucy Reeder Watson; she was a native of Spartanburg County, SC. Mrs. Dover was the wife of Mr. Clarence Dover. For more than seventy years, Mrs. Dover was a faithful and devoted member at Friendship Baptist Church. Her stellar service across decades at Friendship Baptist Church included: member and former chairwoman of the Deaconesses Board; former member of the Usher Board; member and former secretary of the Spartanburg County Ushers Union; member of the Missionary Society; member of the Mutual Benefit Society; member of the Baptism Committee; member and former chairwoman of the Hospitality Committee; member of the Pastor’s Aid and a member of the Sunday School. She worked tirelessly on myriad church programs and projects. Mrs. Dover was a former member of the Brannon Heights Sympathy Club. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, family member and friend. Left to cherish precious memories are: her devoted husband of seventy years, Clarence; her children, Annie (Robert “Bobby”) Davis of Ewing, NJ, Jimmie Dover, Betty Dover of Spartanburg, SC and Patricia (John “Wes”) Murphy of Moore, SC; her siblings, Ethel Watson of Trenton, NJ., Paul Watson of Toney, AL., Archie (Frances) Watson of Evanston, IL; her sister-in-law, Loree Watson; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other dear relatives. Mrs. Dover was predeceased by: her sons, Willie C. Dover, Edwin Glenn Dover; and ten siblings. A Celebration of the Life of Virginia Watson Dover will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 250 Morning Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29301. Dr. Michael A. Glenn will officiate. Mrs. Dover will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
