SPARTANBURG, SC- Mrs. Dartha Lee Boyce Byrd was born to James Carl Boyce, Sr. and the late Mary Lee Loyd on March 28, 1932. She was the wife of Mr. James Williams Byrd. Dartha was a Carver High School Graduate Class of 1951. She was employed at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in the dietary department until her retirement. She was also a domestic engineer for several doctors of the hospital. Mrs. Byrd was a devoted member of the Hardy Chapel Baptist Church until her health declined. She served as a member of the Senior Choir and the Senior Adult Sunday School along with other organizations. Left to cherish fond memories are: her husband, Mr. James William Byrd; her father Mr. James Carl Boyce, Sr.; her three daughters, Betty Mae Byrd, Martha Anne Byrd and Linda Lou Byrd (Richard) Beatty all of Spartanburg, SC.; her five sisters, Mary Boyce (Rev. Michael) Patterson, Valerie B. (John) Perry, Linda B. (Willie) Surratt, Patricia Collins and Carolyn Carson; her four brothers, Lionel (Linda) Boyce, Willie (Mary) Chambers, Carl and Kennett Manigan; her seven grandchildren, LaVette Byrd, Calvin Leroy Byrd, II, Carl LaRae Byrd, Clifton Lamont Young, Bryan Tramaine (LaShonda) Byrd, Christopher Lamont and LaTasha Michelle Byrd; her seven great grandchildren; her six brothers-in-law; her nine sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends. A Celebration of the Life for Dartha Lee Boyce Byrd will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Reverend Monica Landrum will officiate. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd. The family will receive friends at the chapel prior to the service from 12:00 noon until time of the service.
