Nellie D. Smith peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 10, 2015 at the home of her grandson, Spencer Foster. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Sam and Hester Davenport. She was the widow of Waymond Smith. Nellie was a member of Stephen Grove A.M.E Zion Church where she served as a Deaconess, The Missionary Board and Sunday School Teacher. She worked at Mayfair Mills for many years and retired from District 5 Schools. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her daughters, Lesia (Stanley) Woodruff of Roebuck, SC and Sheryl (Ronnie) Geter of Wellford, SC; her sisters, Louise Burgess of Philadelphia, PA and Mary Lyles of Wellford, SC; her brother, Leroy Davenport of Wellford, SC; her seven grandchildren; her seventeen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Nellie was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Porsche Foster; her five brothers, Sam, James, Tommy, Alford and Johnny Davenport; and her sister, Betty Davenport. A Celebration of the Life of Nellie D. Smith will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Reverend Albert J. Sartor will officiate. Interment will be in the Stephen Grove A.M.E Zion Church Cemetery, 120 Stephen Grove Rd., Spartanburg, SC. The family will receive friends at the home of her grandson, Spencer Foster, 151 Suber Dr., Wellford, SC.
