Patricia Bowens McCarthy 77, of Inman, South Carolina, passed away on September 3, 2025, at her farm. Born in Rock Hill in 1947, she lived a remarkable life filled with music, education, and service.
A classically trained pianist and lifelong musician, Pat began her journey at Macedonia Baptist Church and went on to serve as a school music teacher and choir director across South Carolina, upstate New York at Bethany Baptist Church and Westbury Community Church in Westbury, NY. During college she sang with the Hampton Institute travel choir throughout Europe. Beyond music, her career included roles as a computer trainer, school principal, and even at a nuclear power plant. She earned her master’s degree from Syracuse University and her Ed.D. from Dowling University.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, William H. McCarthy and one of her twin sons, Jamal Young. She is survived by her son, Jafir Young, and step daughter Bridget McCarthy.
As well as daughter-in-law, Mercedes Young and Granddaughters Nyla, Mikayla and Maiya Young.
Also surviving are her sister Claudia Hawkins and nephews, Omar, Rashid Hawkins and Grand nephew Malik as well as several other living family members.

Please, accept my deepest heartfelt condolences for the loss of Pat. A wonderful person. I will miss talking to her. I told her if I made it to the So. Carolina area, I was going to take her fishing.

Patty as I called her and she called me Tommy always had a smile and nice words to say. Patty chuck Kevin and her mom Clara we had.a.lot.of specialntimes.and vacationing a few times fr9m Vermont to Cape cod wonderful fun times.god bless you patty now at peace with chuck your sister Caroline and Clara peace be with a of you jo more suffering God bless you and your family love Tommy
