Richmond, VA - Philip Allen Parham, III was born May 21, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY. He passed on November 1, 2016 at his uncle and aunts’ home in Richmond, VA after a brief illness. Philip was a native of Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Parham was the son of the late Ethel and Philip A. Parham, II and the grandson of the late Alma Anderson Dye. He attended public school in Brooklyn and graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in the Flatbush Section of Brooklyn. Upon graduation, Philip attended Brooklyn College and graduated from Long Island University- Brooklyn in 1987. Philip was baptized in Brooklyn, NY. After relocating to Richmond, VA in November 1993, he became a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church where he served in the Men’s Ministry and Christmas in April Home Repair Project. Philip enjoyed spending time with his family. During early childhood, he always visited his family in Spartanburg, SC. He loved playing outside with his cousins and making them laugh. Philip was a well-read young man who loved politics. His family often called him a walking encyclopedia who was never at a loss for words. Chenoa, the youngest cousin, always referred to Philip as “Uncle Phil.” Philip would always tell the family that he loved coming to Spartanburg to eat hot rolls and sweet potato pie that Mama Alma and Aunt Frances baked. His professional career was in banking and insurance. He started his professional career as a Bank Teller with Chemical Bank at 55 Water St. in Manhattan, now JP Morgan Chase. His insurance career started with State Farm Insurance in Farmingdale, Long Island and later worked for Allstate Insurance, Erie Insurance and Colony Insurance in Richmond, VA. At his time of death, Philip was employed by James River Insurance Company, Richmond, VA as a claim examiner. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his step-daughter, Jasmine Kearse-Moody (Marquis); his grandson, Jayden; his aunts, Frances Dye of Spartanburg, SC and Phenie D. Golatt (Moses) of Richmond, VA; his devoted cousins, Tyrone A. Golatt (Ana) of Atlanta, GA, Mindy A. Golatt of Silver Spring, MD, Chenoa M. Golatt of Miami, FL; his Godson, Devin Charles; his devoted friends, Rashel and Claudius Charles; a very special friend, Cheryl Stewart; and a host of other cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Interment will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC.
