Obituary For Rev. James E. Miller

The Reverend James E. Miller, passed Sunday, July 21, 2024.

James Edward Miller was born on April 4, 1935 to the late Mr. Raymond Miller and Mrs. Lillian Evins Montgomery, in Woodruff, SC. He was raised in Spartanburg by his late Uncle Clifford Stroble and Aunt Kathleen Stroble Bryant, until the age of 13 years old. He then rejoined his mother in Philadelphia, PA.

Rev. Miller was educated in both the Spartanburg, SC and Philadelphia, PA school systems. He went on to pursue an education in theology in Seattle, WA. Once he graduated, he was ordained by the Church of God In Christ, Inc. (COGIC) in 1968. He returned to Spartanburg in 1970, where he was ordained by the Fire Baptised Holiness Church of God Of The Americas (FBH). During his time in service within the FBH organization, Rev. Miller pastored Victoria FBH Church in Williamston, SC and Fuller Tabernacle FBH Church in Welford, SC. He was an Assistant Pastor at Mitchell Chapel FBH Church in Gaffney, SC. The remainder of his time in the FBH organization was spent as an Evangelist, with Bethel FBH Church in Spartanburg being his home church. After over 35 years of service, he left the organization in 2005, to pastor his own church - St. James Tabernacle Holiness Church in Cowpens, SC. The church later relocated to Spartanburg. Rev. Miller also ministered on his Sunday morning radio show on WASC Radio Station for 25 years. He was a faithful servant of God for more than 52 years, giving his life in devoted service.

In 1973, Rev. Miller met and married the love of his life, Christine Boyce Miller. Together, they built a marriage that spanned over five decades, and produced three children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. When his memory began to fade, the one thing that he NEVER failed to remember was the anniversary of his marriage to his wife, 'Reb', as he was affectionately known by many, was a caring and compassionate man and had a wonderful sense of humor - his laugh was infectious. He loved to cook and to sing. He was often found in the kitchen doing both. He was a shepard. preacher, teacher, listener, comforter, counselor, and friend to many. After a brief illness, God called him home on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Reverend Miller leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 51 years, Christine; three daughters, Mrs. Antonia Miller-Matthews (Conan) of Germantown, MD, Tina Miller-Ragsdale of Greenville, SC, and Alycya Miller of Bronx, NY; his sister, Mrs. Christena Miller Peeler (Linzy) and his brother, Andrew Miller both of Moore, SC; three grandchildren, Naval Petty Officer Christopher J. Miller (Glenda) of Everett, WA, Eric O. Ragsdale and Gabrielle C. Miller both of Greenville, SC; two great grandchildren, Aiden Lee and Jada Rose, both of Everett, WA; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel.
