Obituary for Rudy Alvin Baker Rudy Alvin Baker was born in McDonough, Georgia to the late Fannie Mae and Willie Charles Baker on February 15, 1944. He departed this life peacefully to be with his loving wife Doretha on September 16, 2021. Rudy received his education from the Henry County Training School in McDonough, Georgia.
Later in life, Rudy met his best friend Doretha in Baltimore, Maryland, and they were united in holy matrimony for 53 years. Rudy and Doretha loved dining out and traveling. They traveled extensively while he was in the U. S. Navy, traveling to Jamaica, Mexico, Spain, France and living in Italy for four years. In the Navy, Rudy was a Chief Boatswain Mate and retired in 1988 serving his country for 26 years.
Settling in Chesapeake, VA, Rudy joined New Hope Baptist Church with his wife, and he was faithful in being by her side supporting her in the various ministries she was involved in, especially the Busy Bee Seniors. He belonged to the Brotherhood Ministry and on various occasions assisted with the cooking at special events sponsored by the Brotherhood. Rudy and Doretha maintained a successful real estate business, Camelot Investments, in the area for many years. Rudy enjoyed fishing during his spare time. He also loved to spend time with family, especially his grandchildren. Rudy was Past Master of Lebanon Lodge #34, Most Excellent Grand High Priest of King Cyrus Grand Chapter of Virginia, and a member of Truxton Mount Moriah Lodge #9.
Rudy was a loving father, husband, brother, and friend. Rudy was predeceased by his brothers Willie Charles, Jr., Harold Wesley and his sister Jacqueline Baker and his wife Doretha in February 2021. Rudy leaves in God's care his daughter Lynette Boyd, a son Alvin Lamont (Shelvi Young); six grandchildren, LaShawna, Derrick, Khalil, Kharon, Kainen and Kastle; a great grandson Chance; very special friends Mr. and Mrs. Ford, and Leon and Angie Hudson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rudy will be laid to rest at a graveside service on October 2, 2021, at 1pm, at Ridgeville Baptist Cemetery, 385 Ridgeville Baptist Church Road in Inman, South Carolina.
