Obituary For Shirley Crook
Mrs. Shirley Jones Crook, affectionately known as “Shirl”, departed her life on Thursday, August 20 in Spartanburg, SC.
She was born on July 22, 1953 in Columbia, SC to the late Albert Jones Jr. Marietta Reese Jones.
She was educated in the Richland County public school system at Dreher High School.
She was baptized at Shiloh Baptist in Columbia, SC. She was married to Jerry Wayne Crook on October 22, 1990.
Shirley was very active in her church ministries: Young Adult Choir, Sympathy Club, Faith Ministry, Sunday School member and Usher, Charter Volunteer member of the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. *Holden Chapel Missionary Baptist*
She was preceded in death by her sons, Christopher J. Cayruth, Ralphael G. Cayruth, and her stepson, Darren W. Crook, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Sharon D. Cayruth of Columbia, SC; two stepdaughters, Rosalyn (Ronnie) Splawn and Jerri L. Lyles both of Spartanburg, SC; five sisters, Susan M. Brown, Karen L. Lorick, Jerrilyn K. Jones, Kimberlyn Y. Jones, and Glenda M. Jones (Mary); one sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Jim) Wrenix; her grandchildren, Shakia (Montez) Haynes, Omar Christopher McClinton, Brittany McClinton, Kaniesha (Dracus) Fuller, Courtney (Oquendo) Curry, Dasmine Crook, Mikalia (Bobby) Mitchell, Darren Crook, Jr.; sixteen great-grandchildren; three special sons, Pierre Jones, Valton L. King, II, and Carlos D. Lorick; her aunts, Evelyn R. Cannon and Dorothy Goldston; her uncle, John (Rosa) Reese; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Holden Chapel Baptisat Church. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens. Livestream will be available at https://evt.live/shirley-j-crook
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel.

I met Ms. Shirley when I was the Minister of Music at Holden Chapel. She was such a sweet and classy lady! I've always remembered her smile and words of encouragement. I was saddened to hear of the Earth's loss and Heaven's gain. Prayers are lifted for her family...rest in power, Ms. Shirley!
