Obituary For Shirley Hollis

Shirley A. Hollis, 81, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 10, 2016. She was born on July 6, 1935 to the late Mr. James Freeman and Mrs. Willie Mae Freeman. Mrs. Hollis was a native of Spartanburg County, South Carolina; she was the widow of Mr. Lawrence Hollis. Shirley retired from Abbott Labs. She attended Carver High School and furthered her studies at Cecil’s Business College. Mrs. Hollis was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was an active and faithful member, serving in many capacities such as a member of Sunday School Teacher, YWA-YMM Missionary, Eastern Stars, Senior Missionary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Church Choir, Sunbeam Missionaries, VBS Teacher, President of the Countywide Missionary, Evangelism Out Reach Program, Food and Clothing Assistant, July Birthday Club and Teacher in the School of Methods LSCBA Congress of Christian Education. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her daughters, Wanda (Jonathan) Green, Shelia (Gerry) Dendy and Sonya L. (Harold) Nash; her son, Winfred (Linda) Hollis; her brother, Lionell Harmon; her uncle, James Harmon; her ten grandchildren; her nine great grandchildren; her four great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hollis was preceded in death by a son, Larry D, Hollis and a daughter, Janet D. Hollis. A Celebration of the Life of Shirley A. Hollis will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 445 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC. Interment will be held in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC.
