Obituary For Toronda Clark

Toronda Michelle Roebuck Clark was born on December 23,1969, in Myrtle Beach, SC to James Roebuck and Nettie Mills Whitner. She spent her early childhood years in Atlanta, GA and her adolescent/teen years in Spartanburg, SC. Toronda, who was well-known for being a cheerleader, cheered throughout middle and high school. While in high school, she was Co-Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad and held several Student Council positions. She graduated as a memberof the Dorman High School Class of 1987 in Spartanburg, SC. Toronda continued her higher education at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in Spring 1991. While attending CAU, she served as a Freshman Guide and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, “Sweet” Alpha Pi Chapter in the Spring of 1989. She proudly served as the beloved Dean of Pledgees for the Fall 1989 Ivy Leaf Pledge Club. She was beautiful inside and out! Toronda possessed a “no-nonsense” persona, yet underneath it all was a profound warmth and compassion that made people gravitate toward her. Her presence touched countless lives across the globe in so many ways.

Upon college graduation, Toronda moved to Newberry, SC to begin her professional journey at Kraft Foods Group that lasted over 24 years. While working as a young professional, she met the love of her life, Scott Christopher Clark, who hailed from Baton Rouge, LA. She was immediately smitten, and a long-distance romance ensued for 3 years. On August 21, 1999, Toronda and Scott married and began to build a beautiful life and family. Their careers led them to Jacksonville, FL, Chicago, IL, and full circle back to Atlanta, GA where Toronda worked as Director of Human Resources for Lennox International. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Human Resources for Newell Brand. While Toronda was fearless and consistently advancing in her career, her foremost role was that of a devoted wife and loyal partner to her husband, Scott of 25 years. Together they cultivated a home full of warmth, laughter, love, and strong values for their cherished daughters, Courtney Marie Clark, and Kennedy Morgan Clark. The girls, like their mother, developed a love for cheerleading. If not working, she and Scott were supporting the two at their cheer competitions. Toronda thoroughly enjoyed and embodied her role as a “cheer mom.”

Toronda was a highly revered and influential leader who wasknown for her unwavering determination. Her steadfast resolve inspired those around her, and she remained courageous as she fought cancer until the very end. Toronda will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her commitment to mentoring both young men & women, her radiant smile, her shoulder bounce, and the iconic strand of pearls she always wore.

Lastly, Toronda’s love extended deeply to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Christopher Clark; her beautiful daughters: Courtney Marie Clark, and Kennedy Morgan Clark; father, James Roebuck (Dorothy); mother, Nettie Mills Whitner (Ray); younger sister, Tamika Whitner Elliott (Tony); her adored nephews, Austin Christopher Elliott (Ace)and Antonio Lamar Elliott, Jr (AJ). She also shared a close bond with her In-Laws, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fenelon; brothers-in-law, Rick Clark (Shauna) and John Montgomery (Dwylett); sister-in-law, Brandi Allen (David); Aunts: Ruth Kerns, Creola Mills, Edna Mills, and the Late Agnes Mays; Cousins: Steve Mills (Hazel), the Late Freddie Mays, the Late Mark Mays, Reba Stewart, Stephanie Wilkins, Gary Riviera, the Late Dwight Mils, Wanda Drummond (Ben), Sandra Moss (Todd), Sylvia Cohen, Shiela Kearnes, Jacqueline Dominick (Kenneth), Anitra Carr (Brandon), Steven Morant, and a host of other family members and friends who knew and treasured her.

There are so many things I wish I could have said to you during my visit to the hospital. Unfortunately, the pain prevented me from expressing myself fully, and all I could manage was, "I love you." But there's so much more I wanted you to know.

You have been an incredible mentor to me and to so many others. I hope I've thanked you enough for all your support, especially in helping Tanollie and Ariell get into FAMU. Your letters, advice, and guidance over the years have meant the world to me. I deeply cherish the wonderful stories you've shared and your kindness in always welcoming me into your beautiful home. You and Scott have been such guiding lights in my life, and I can only hope to achieve even a fraction of what you both represent. Thank you for your boundless hospitality and love.

Your style is unmatched—you truly are the best at what you do. I always admired how you arrived in that Range Rover, and I'd think, "That's my cousin—so beautiful, so strong, and she doesn't play any games." You exemplify class on so many levels. Even now, whenever I see a Range Rover, I think of you and quietly say, "That's my cousin." It always brings a smile to my face.

Thank you for standing by me in my most difficult times, especially during my daughter's funeral. I'll never forget how you leaned in and whispered, "I'm here, cuz." Though much of that day feels like a blur, your words stay with me, resonating in my heart every day.

Everything you taught me has come to fruition. To the Scott, Courtney, Kennedy Clark family; Tony, Tamika, Ace, AJ Elliott family; my Aunt Nettie; and the Roebuck and Mills family—please know I love you all deeply. I'm so sorry for our loss. The pain I feel, I know you feel it too, doubly so. She was the best, and she will be forever missed.

With love, The Carr Family Brandon, Anitra, Braijon, Tanollie, and Amari
