Vennie Mae Rogers Jones, 71, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, left this world peacefully at home on Wednesday evening, October 30th, 2024.
Born in Spartanburg, Vennie was the second oldest of three children by Margaret Rogers Mays. She attended Foster Grove High School and graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1971. After high school, Vennie went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Service from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Vennie's passion for working with children, building stronger families, and creating a lasting impact in communities in need, led to a successful career at SHARE Head Start, where she worked for 31 years, inspiring many with her compassion and dedication. Due to her knowledge and expertise, Vennie was selected in 1996 as the SHARE Early Head Start Coordinator for one of the first programs in South Carolina, where she supervised several locations within Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee Counties. During her tenure at SHARE, she acquired specialized certification, became a Special Quest Ambassador, and provided consultation to other Early Head Start/Head Start programs throughout the state. She also served as an administrator and trainer for the South Carolina Early Head Start Model Classroom Initiative, which gained national acclaim, resulting in her traveling across the country sharing her knowledge in early child development. She served tirelessly in these roles until her retirement in 2018.
Vennie was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her three grandchildren, watching General Hospital, reading murder mystery novels, and watching movies. She was a dedicated member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess and teacher of New Member Orientation and the Married Couples Ministry. She was also a member of the church By-Laws and Kitchen committees.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Jones, of Mauldin, SC; one son, Douglas Rayshun Jones, of Fountain Inn, SC; one daughter, Shonda Renee Jones, of Mauldin, SC; three grandchildren, Brentley Tivon Jones, Laila Luciana McGoogan, and Ivory Quinn McMullen, of Mauldin, SC; her mother, Margaret Rogers Mays, of Spartanburg SC; two sisters, Shirley Rogers and Debra Anderson, of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Vennie spent her entire adult life providing for her family in whatever way she could. She positively touched everyone within the family circle and was known for giving orders.
Vennie will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday November 6, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 110 Brewton Road, Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Good Shephard Memorial Gardens, Boiling Springs, SC.

To the family I'm so sorry for your loss. When my mom passed Aug 31 2024 I asked Mrs April where Mrs Vinnie was and lil did I know she was sick and frighting. But I knew your presence was missing. Her sweet voice and that hug and kiss on cheek or forehead. She would always ask about my mom and gave many encouraging words for me taking care of my parents. She would always tell me Erica i got your son some graduation money for him whenever he come to church ...he graduate in 2013 and still never got his graduation gift but it wasn't because Mrs Vinnie forgot it was bc he never came to church. She was a lady of her words. There are not many older members that have that sweet sweet spirit but Mrs Vinnie Jones was definitely one. May you enjoy Heaven until we meet again. Love Erica Morton and her kids.
My sincere sympathy and condolences for her family. I have no words at this moment but I offer prayers of strength to endure your loss. Angela Lane
