Willie Glenn Martin, Sr. was born in Spartanburg, SC on Sunday, 08 August 1954 to the late A. Irene Martin and Sylvester Stroble. Willie lived all of his life in the Spartanburg community, lastly residing in Cowpens, SC for twenty-five years. He transitioned into a peaceful rest on Friday, 10 December 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Willie Glenn graduated from Spartanburg High School and began working in the community. He was employed with Community Cash Warehouse for over 20 years as a truck driver, and Retired from Michelin Tire after being employed there for 22 years. He married Mary Robinson in 1977 and started a family. They raised three children, two of whom continue to live in Cowpens and one in Raleigh, NC. He enjoyed his life, especially caring for his children and his grandchildren. Often with the children, they took trips to New York and other states. While the children were in school, he supported them in all of their school activities and after all their children were out of school he began supporting the grandchildren. In addition to that he participated in sports activities himself. Willie Glenn was an awesome husband, father and grandfather. He was a wonderful brother, fun cousin always supporting his family, extended family, in-laws, friends and neighbors. Willing to help when and where help was needed. He was great at making jokes and the family and friends enjoyed listening to him. They could always depend on hearing him say something to make them laugh. He was also a very good cook, in recent years he was infamous for frying fish and making coleslaw. Willie is survived by: One daughter, Kimaka G. Martin of Cowpens, SC, two sons, Travis S. (Shona) Martin of Raleigh, NC and Willie G. Martin Jr. of Cowpens, SC. Two sisters, Eva Martin Keith of Cowpens, SC and Joyce Stroble of Spartanburg, SC, One brother, Jimmy Stroble of Atlanta, GA. A very Special Mother In Law, Alene Washington of Boiling Springs, SC. Three grandsons reared in the home, Bakeem M. Martin, Derrick X. Martin of Cowpens, SC and Hezekiah E. Martin of Spartanburg Sc. Willie has eight additional grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by cousins, Sarah Young, Gladys Alston, Priscilla Allen, Bernard (Valerie) Martin, and Frankie (Alfredia) Martin. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Robinson who transitioned to an eternal peace 29 May 2012. Memories of all who knew “Willie Glenn,” “Mr. Glenn” or “Mr. Martin” will be cherished forever. Services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Kingdom New Life Deliverance Church, 323 Sibley St., Una, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2256 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC.
