Obituary For David Franklin Adams

David F. Adams January 1, 1932 - March 13, 2021 David F. Adams, age 89 peacefully passed away March 13, 2021. David was from Versailles, KY and served in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He was married to the love of his life, Otie Adams for over 60 years. David is survived by his three children, Judy Harney, Anthony Adams (Stephanie), Elizabeth Eades, five grandchildren, Brian Harney (Maia), Jennifer Marshall (Matt), Chris Eades, Kimberly Tuney (Chase), Savannah Adams, and five great grandchildren, Gavin and Sawyer Marshall, Conner Harney, Alyssa King, and Tucker Tuney, and sister, Christine Arnold. David was preceded in death by his wife, Otie Adams, two sons-in-law, Joe Harney and Stanley R. Eades, and his parents, Burch and Chancellor Adams. David spent his working years at IBM working in engineering and development. He received several certificates of achievement for his contributions on typewriters and copiers. When not working, David was an avid member of the Lexington and Fayette Lions Club. He served as President and won several prestigious awards, including the Melvin Jones Award and the Finis Davis Award. David found his true passion within the Lions Club when he started working with the Lions KidSight program. He spent countless hours reaching out to preschools and other institutions trying to have them allow him to come in and screen the children. He took his screening very seriously, and always felt such pride when he was able to help detect an eye issue and work to get the child the help they needed so they could fix their vision. David was always a hard-working man who took care of his wife and children. He was always proud of his children, and then he experienced even more pride when he became a grandfather and then a great grandfather. There was nothing David wouldn’t do for his family. When he wasn’t working or at a Lion’s Event, he was right there supporting those that he loved. The only time he wouldn’t be at an event or take a vacation was during the week of the Lexington Lions Bluegrass Fair. We all knew that week was devoted to the fair, and he would spend countless hours out there, making sure things ran well and everyone was having a great time. From school awards ceremonies, Cub Scout ceremonies, musical theater performances, sporting events, and anything in between, David was there to support us all. He would always tell us how great we did, but he was also quick to tell us if we could have done something better. His open and honest feedback helped mold us all to who we are today. He was always the talk of the ballfields when he would attend his great grandkids games. He would cheer loud and proud, and then be quick to follow with a “what in the world was he doing” when a bad play was made. If you knew David at all, you knew he had his eating routine down to a perfect science. Every day for lunch, he would order a McDonald’s cheeseburger with tomato and mayo, a small fry and a Diet Coke; if he was feeling like spicing things up, he would switch out the Diet Coke to Unsweet Tea. Once he got his food, he would remove the top of the bun and he would eat 10 french fries out of his order. KFC and Cracker Barrel were his go to for dinner. I believe every waitress at Cracker Barrel knew him. If we went to dinner with him, we would immediately hear “Hi David” from every waitress we walked past. They even knew his order of meat loaf, green beans, and coleslaw and unsweet tea. The mold was definitely broken when he was made. David’s smile was contagious, and he always had a witty comment. No matter what type of event you were attending, if you were around David, he would put a smile on your face and a hearty laugh with an observation of someone in the room, or an off the wall comment he would make under his breath. We are all so fortunate to have him as a part of our lives. He helped make lifelong memories for all of us, we wouldn’t change it for the world.
