Ruby Dean Smith, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on March 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 18, 1943, in Daniel, Mississippi, Ruby graced this world with 82 years of her unique style and perspective. Growing up in Mississippi, Ruby was a bright student, graduating as Salutatorian from White Oak High School. A member of Rock Bluff Baptist Church in her later years yet always valuing the importance of faith, taking all her 4 small children to Briar Hill Baptist church. Ruby had a special place in her heart for babies and children, believing fervently that they should be fed and moisturized to excess—a philosophy that brought laughter to some and frustration to others, especially the mothers. Her passion and skill for gardening and vegetable canning was unsurpassed. She was an excellent cook known for the best apple fritters and tomato gravy with no cookbooks required!
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Randall Smith, who was her steadfast companion, always by her side. Her legacy lives on through her children: Jim Smith, Clint Smith, Sonya (Chris) Pickle, and Tina Arrington. Her sister, Roma Sue Roberts, remains to cherish their shared memories. Ruby was predeceased by her sister, Corsa Lee Watson, her brother, Buster James, and her parents, Bill and Versie James. Grandchildren include Robyn McKenzie, Randy Hendrix, Clint Hendrix, Dillon Haven, Jay and Sunny Smith. Mrs. Ruby also deeply cherished her five great grandchildren.
In her later years, Ruby faced the challenges of dementia and failing health with resilience, always comforted by the presence of her beloved "Pappa." Even in her final days, her cuteness and candor shone through, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruby's life will be held at Rock Bluff Baptist Church on Saturday March 29th at 11am. As we gather to honor her memory, we find solace in the love she shared and the family she left behind. Ruby Dean Smith will be dearly missed, but her spirit lives on in the laughter, love, and memories she leaves behind. Rest in peace, Ruby, knowing you were deeply cherished.
