Obituary for Dolly Sanders Peay
On Friday, December 10, 2021, our loving mother, Dolly Sanders Peay, passed away at the age of 85. Mama was born on May 17, 1936, in Chester, South Carolina. She received her Associate Degree from Friendship College in South Carolina. In 1957, she was joined in marriage to Charlie Peay in Chester, South Carolina and they relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina where they raised two daughters, Greta and Delgracia. She was a well-known Real Estate Broker, and the owner of Dolly Realty Company for over 43 years in Charlotte, North Carolina until her retirement in 2013. Mama had a passion for helping others and she demonstrated that through her dedicated service at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was an active member for over 58 years. She was one of the first females ordained as a Deacon at Mount Carmel and she was involved in missionary work in Haiti assisting with the development of the church’s school. Mama was a world traveler, and as a member of a delegation from Mount Carmel, she traveled to the Holy Land and considered that journey as one of the most rewarding experiences in her life. She was involved with various other ministries at church; among those The Leon C. Riddick Scholarship Fund which was close to her heart. Mount Carmel has a slogan stating, “I Am Mount Carmel,” she truly embodied that spirit. Mama loved hosting family holiday gatherings and was an avid collector of recipes; her most famous being pound cakes and fruit cakes. Momma was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind compassionate spirit! She was preceded in death by her loving mother, father, brothers, sister, and husband. She is survived by her two daughters, Greta (Kenneth Miller) and Del’gracia (Ayman EzzElarab), brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and cousins throughout the country. Mama was affectionally known to many as Deacon Dolly, Aunt Dolly, Miss Dolly, Sister Dolly, and she will be missed. WE will always remember her as our sweet loving mother. Thanks to all of you for loving our mother, an angel sent to us by GOD. NO FLOWERS PLEASE

To Greta and Del, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Mrs. Peay was such a sweet, and loving woman. She treated me like a daughter and always made me feel loved. She was truly a woman of God. The word of God promises, God will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever." May you find comfort in his word and from the love of family and friends.
