In Loving Memory of Annette Pierce Hooks

January 6th, 1944 – July 26th, 2025

In the afternoon of Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, our beloved Annette Pierce Hooks transitioned from this life. The Lord who gently released her from all pain and led her to a place where, as Scripture promises, “there shall be no more death, no sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”

Annette was born on January 6, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late John Henry and Myrtis Pierce. She was the eldest of three children, who undoubtedly embraced the responsibilities and leadership that came with her role in the family.

At the age of three, Annette and her family relocated to the Bronx, New York, where she spent the majority of her life. A proud graduate of Morris High School, she went on to attend Bronx Community College and later furthered her education at the Wilfred Academy School. Through dedication and a passion for her craft, she earned an associate’s degree from the National Beauty Culturists League. Her professional development included hands-on training with renowned figures such as John Williams, Olive Benson, Pivot Point International, Dudley University, and the Bronner Brothers — all of which elevated her to new heights in the beauty industry.

After a thirty-year career as a Credit Manager at Bell Atlantic, Annette retired to fully dedicate herself to cosmetology, working alongside her mother at the cherished Deluxe Beauty Salon. Upon her mother’s retirement, Annette took over as the new owner and operator, continuing the salon’s legacy with elegance and professionalism. She was an active member of Bronx Unit 17 and the State Beauty Culturists’ Association of New York, Inc. (SBCA), serving as Corresponding Secretary, Business Manager, and Chair of multiple events.

Annette’s life was guided by her favorite verse: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). She exemplified this in all areas of her life — not only in her career, but also in her generous service to the community. She mentored underprivileged children through the Children’s Aid Society, volunteered for the Bronx Democratic Club, and once ran for State Committee Woman, always working to uplift those around her.

Her love for culture and movement was also evident in her participation in African dance. Encouraged by her brother Mike, an Afro-Caribbean drummer, Annette became a dancer with the Laroc Bay Dance Troupe, performing at numerous social and cultural events.

In November 1999, Annette married Robert Hooks, and in December 2000, the couple relocated to Augusta, Georgia, where they shared the last 25 years of her life together. During her time in Augusta, Annette found a spiritual home at Ebenezer Rock Church, where she faithfully attended and ultimately became a member in 2021.

Annette is survived by her loving devoted husband Robert Hooks; her brother Lawrence Pierce; sister-in-law Susan Hooks; brothers-in-law Joel, Charles, and Willie; sons David Eilets and Victor Parker; stepsons Scottie and Robert Hooks Jr.; grandchildren Justin, Jayden, and Kamilah Parker; her nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors. She was predeceased by her brother Mike Pierce and step-son Tony Hooks.

Her strength, creativity, and compassion touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service — and a lasting reminder that through Christ, “I can do all things.”

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home Chapel.
