Carolyn Martin Allen was born on November 30, 1942, to the late Mary Martin in Atlanta, Georgia. She transitioned peacefully at her residence in North Augusta, South Carolina, on July 24, 2026, at the age of 83.
Carolyn graduated in 1959 from David J. Howard High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the
senior class vice president, a senior contribution yearbook editor, a varsity basketball player, and
a member of the student council and chorus.
She attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, from 1959 to 1963, where she received her
Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science and Mathematics with a minor in English and
Sociology/History. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the third honor graduate. She was
honored as Paine College Miss Homecoming in 1961. While studying at Paine College, she met and
married Charles C. Allen Sr., and this union was blessed with three children: Donna, Danielle, and
Charles Jr.
After graduation from Paine College, Carolyn taught mathematics in Augusta and Atlanta, Georgia, from 1963 to 1973. Her schools included Sandbar Ferry Junior High School, T. W. Josey High School, Fairburn High School, College Park High School, and Glenn Hills High School.
In 1973, the family moved from Augusta to Macon, Georgia. Carolyn taught Geometry, Algebra,
and Pre-Calculus at Ballard Hudson Junior High School from 1973 to 1978, Southwest High School
from 1978 to 1988, and Southeast High School from 1988 to 1996, where she served as head of the
mathematics department.
Carolyn continued her education and received her Master of Education degree from Mercer
University in Macon, Georgia, in 1976. During the summers, she taught mathematics in the Mercer
University Upward Bound Program. She retired from the Bibb County School District after 33 years
of service and was a lifetime retired member of the Georgia Association of Educators.
Carolyn attended and served faithfully at St. Paul AME Church in Macon, Georgia. In 1978, she
became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Omega Omega Chapter.
She was also a mother of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, Macon Chapter.
Carolyn loved reading, bowling, playing bridge, watching professional sports, solving crossword puzzles, cooking, traveling, and cruising. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was an encourager, an advocate, and a cheerleader to those around her.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Samuel "Bobo" C. Martin, Jr.
Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 64
years, Charles C. Allen Sr.; daughters, Donna Allen Jones (Oliver) and Danielle Allen; son, Charles
C. Allen Jr. (Tia); grandchildren, India McIntyre, Savannah Allen, Lia Allen, and London
Allen; sister-in-law, Sheldonia VanEllison; lifetime friends, Sue Jackson, Grady Cornish, and
Martha Cornish; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Carolyn's life was defined by faith, wisdom, compassion, service, and an unwavering devotion
to her family. Her influence lives on in the generations she nurtured, the students she taught, the
friends she encouraged, and the community she served.

A Celebration of Life will be 11:30 am, Friday, July 31, 2026, at Kinsey & Walton Chapel.
Interment will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens.
