John Quincy Steadman, 78, of Wagner, South Carolina, passed away on January 29, 2025 at his home in Augusta, Georgia.
John, affectionately known as 'Bubba', was born on October 6, 1946 in Wagener, South Carolina to Lloyd Steadman and Mirtis Coleman Steadman. John grew up in Wagener and attended A.L. Corbett Elementary School. As a young teenager, John followed in his older siblings' footsteps and migrated north to Queens, New York. John met and married Elneta Coger, 'Neta' in 1972 and went on to create a beautiful family. As a younger man, John was a successful truck driver for over twenty years, then went on to drive buses for Green Bus Lines and the Metropolitan Transit Authority until his retirement in 2005.
John, a member of Chalk Hill Baptist Church, was known for his strong presence, deep voice, handsome smile, wonderful sense of humor, and his commitment to his family.
Once retired, John enjoyed caring for and took great pride in beautifying his home. Most weekends you could find him on his riding mower landscaping his yard, doing one of the many household projects he created for himself, or going to the gym to stay active. John touched the lives of many through his work relationships with fellow bus drivers, his kind gestures toward neighbors and most notably, his family. John was family oriented and devoted to his family as a whole. Whenever family called, he was there to support in any way he could. He was proud of his family's accomplishments and beamed with pride whenever he mentioned them. John had a great presence in the Steadman family that will be greatly missed.
