United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Larry Leroy George of Augusta, GA., formerly of Miami, Fl., passed away June 30, 2024, at the age of 74.
Larry Leroy George was born March 26, 1950, in Miami, Fl., at Christian Hospital (the first black owned hospital) to the late Cleveland Leroy George and Gussie Mae (George) Guess.
Larry attended Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, Fl., member of the class of 1968. After graduating high school, Larry joined the United States Air Force where he would dedicate his service to our country for 28 years 9 months 11 days, serving stateside and overseas, and retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Following retirement from the United States Air Force, Larry went on to teach high school JROTC in North Carolina and work as a Correctional Officer in North Carolina, as well.
Preceded in death by Jeffrey Aaron George (son), Jeremiah George (grandson; age 3 months), Darlene Guess (sister), Deirdrea "Debbie" Guess (sister), and Charles "Lamb" Guess (brother).
Survived by high school sweetheart and first love Patricia George (wife); Children: DaRon Leroy George and Tamara S George; Grandchildren, Joshua George and Jada George; Siblings: Cleo George Reynolds, Glen George (Marlene), Maevis George Kerr, James Guess Jr., Darryl Guess, Helena Guess (Kimberly), and Linda George Moody (cousin "sister"); Brothers-in-law: Derrick Armstrong (Denita), Sandy Armstrong (Andrea), Moses Armstrong Jr. (Yvonne), Kenneth Armstrong (Alfreda), and Gregory Armstrong (Violet); Sisters-in-law: Joyce "Vel" Pollock (Tony), Stephanie Davis (Michael), Degay Ferrell, and Effie Bartley; uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4pm to 6pm at Kinsey & Walton. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 12, 2024, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road. (706) 790-8858
