Obituary For Ronald B. Eastman

RONALD BOOKER EASTMAN, was born in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies, on October 20, 1943. He was the first of seven children.

He was a very outgoing and giving man with a heart of gold, and a smile that could charm any heart. But the Lord charmed his. After being taught the Gospel, he was baptized into Christ, and was a member of the Louisville Church of Christ, where he faithfully served as an administrative assistant, and the ministry leader over the church's benevolence ministry; these positions he held until his illness.

Ronald (Ron) was raised in Port of Spain, Trinidad, where he met and married the love of his life, Joan (his Joanie) Phillips, on June 5, 1966. Ron and Joan spent 59 dedicated years of marriage together. They have two loving children, Sheldon and Curtis and one grandchild, Ryan. Ronald was a devoted Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother and Friend.

He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Army. During his tenure, 1973 to 1993, he served in the areas of Communication at Fort Gordon; did four tours: two of them to Germany, and one each to Saudi Arabia and Panama. He was stationed at Ft. Benning and conclude his military career in the division of CID at Ft. Stewart in Savannah. During his tenure in the military, he received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Commendation medal (20 oak leaf cluster), Expert Badge (Rifle), among others. He joined the Richmond County Sheriff Department in 1995, and concluded his tenure as a Transport Officer in 2008. He did not become idle; Ron took his love for humanity to another level when he became a member of the Retired Military Police Association (RMPA). He was also a member of his neighborhood association.

Ron was deeply loved by his family and friends. In the final months of his life at home, his wife, Joan (his Joanie, the only name he could sometimes utter), provided unwavering and dedicated care, with intermittent assistance from his brother, Elmon, and son Curtis, thus allowing him to remain in the comfort of his home until his condition worsened and he was transported to the Veteran's Administration Hospital on February 20*. Our beloved passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Ron was preceded in death by his mother Sybil, his father, Carlton and one brother, Carl. He leaves cherished and fond memories to: his wife, Joan Eastman; sons: Sheldon Eastman and Curtis (Marilyn) Eastman of Augusta, Georgia; grandson, Ryan Eastman of Augusta, Georgia; brothers Anthony (Cheryl) Carty of Canada, Elmon (Roberta) Carty of Hephzibah; three sisters, Leonora (Glen) Thomas of Trinidad & Tobago, Elizabeth (Bertram) Mortley, of Hephzibah, Annette Carty-Estridge, of Hephzibah; nieces Neisha, Candy, Ellekia, Jeneva, Kim, Charlene, Charmaine, Cherry, Krystal, Cheran. Nephews; lan, Colin, Peter, Anthony, Keron, Kevin #1, EJ, Kevin #2, Terry and Christopher. A host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, one special cousin, Rudolph (Rudy), and loving and attentive friends, and brothers-and-sisters-in- Christ. He will be greatly missed.

Public viewing and visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2026, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be 11:00am, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Kinsey & Walton Chapel.

Interment will be Monday, March 9, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229.
