MGySgt Howard was a great man to get to know at Greenbrier High School. He was a wonderful mentor to my daughter while she was at GHS and she spoke about him often. He even called her a few times at my request after she graduated when she was going through some tough times. It meant a lot to both of us that he would take the time to check on her and give her some life coaching. I'm grateful I got to know him. God Bless.

To the Howards, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Master Gunns, to me, was an amazing instructor who inspired and absolutely motivated me to be a better person. He guided us all with wisdom and he will truly be missed for what a great man he was. Every day is a good day.. The trio will miss you.

As a parent of students you taught, I am truly without words knowing you are no longer here. But I need you to know this. Everything you poured into my children is still living, still growing, still showing up in their lives every single day.

So I will leave this here in your honor.

He listened. Eric will graduate this year with his degree in mechanical engineering from VUU. Juli'Anna Page GHS Class of 2019, retired United States Air Force. My two GHS graduates Class of 2022: Specialist Michael Savion White, United States Army, now home safely from deployment in Poland. Corporal Christopher Page, United States Marine Corps. We got one. And finally, baby girl, who probably drove you absolutely insane, Airman Aaliyah Page, United States Navy.

Mr. Tony, or Master Gunns as I knew him is the best teacher I've ever had and one of the greatest men I've ever known. I knew him to be a loyal Disciple of God and a valiant warrior of the United States Marine Corps. The kind of man that young people with a chip on their shoulder and little sense of direction needs in their lives to help them channel their dormant potential and overcome their fears and shortcomings. Once upon a time, I was one of those young men and I had the privilege of having him as a mentor for four full years. He always held me accountable even if I didn't understand why I was wrong, he always pushed me to new limits even when I felt I had nothing left to give, and he always believed in me even if I didn't believe in myself. I could not have asked for a more uplifting, motivating, and effective leader to follow the example of in my adolescent years. His lessons have frequently manifested themselves outside from the hallways of memory and plopped themselves dead center into my adult life, and I'll bet it has for many others as well. How lucky we were to have him speaking wisdom to us at every turn. He's enacted positive change in the lives of thousands of young men and women, and always shined bright in every community he was involved in. Thank you, Master Gunns. For everything. My deepest sympathies to the Howard family and friends. May God bless y'all and shine his comforting light upon you in troubled times.

My condolences to the family. MGySgt(R) Howard attended my daughter's, 1LT(P) Natalie Wilson, commissioning ceremony at Furman University in May 2022, to be the first NCO to salute her as an Officer. We really appreciatedhim taking the time to attend and participate in her ceremony. May you rest in heavenly peace MGySgt(R) Tony Howard. You will be truly missed.

I remember when i first met him , he was teaching us what we needed to know for our Annual Military Inspection. He was a great teacher and he asked about my future and gave me tips and ideas to plan it out , he was a very kind and generous man and he will be deeply missed

It is our heartfelt prayers and condolences for you all. Mr. Howard was inspiring in his commitment and dedication to his community and he was a standard when you saw him taking care of his home. Watching him ride miles on his bike; to and fro, was one testimony of how committed he could be.

I met Tony back in 1983 while on the Drill Field at PI. And we been friends every sense. Tony was a good Marine and a great friend and we will miss him. May he continues to rest in peace. Semper Fi Marine.

He was a major contributor to have me get good grades and he gave me a leadership role for a drill meet that greenbrier was hosting as a freshman and he had us do a lot of good stuff and let us work out our differences and he even made my freshman year amazing

I will never forget the first day I met Master Gunns. My freshman year at greenbrier. First day in ROTC. Man I was so nervous🤣 I didn't say much in his class, but he had me sitting right in front of his desk. He was determined to get me to talk. Slowly I started opening up and then our bond grew. The woman I am today was thanks to the guidance and encouragement Master Gunns gave me. During my time in the army and then nursing school, he was there sending me prayer and congratulating me when I finished. He was like a father figure in high school but even after that because do not think you are going to mess with his ROTC daughters because he was watching. I will forever cherish the funny memories and the great talks we shared. Miss you and will continue making you proud❤️

We met for the first time the summer of 2005 at the Augusta family reunion. You, me and my now husband bonded quickly and chatted a good while about our military service. You and hubby, became even closer friends after learning you both are Georgia boys. What I'm trying to say is, from the very beginning, I was so very proud to be your family. Over, the years I learned the tremendous man of faith and good character that you are (were) is what strengthens our family bonds. Everyone was always safe with you around. You will be missed, but you won't be forgotten. There are so many lives you've impacted in positive ways, your memory will forever live on in our hearts. He made sure Rev Ford, from First Shiloh Baptist Church was on program for this year 2026 banquet for the Annual Ushers Union of Georgia event. So grateful God called him home. Master Gunns wasn't just a teacher and mentor, he was family. He always believed that everyone could rise and become their best selves and never gave up on a student. Through thick and thin he was always there to offer a listening ear and advice. Full of optimism, joy and a drive to improve the lives of the students around him, Master Gunns was a beacon of hope towards a better future. He'll forever be missed by myself and all those who knew him. May he rest in peace and know he was a cherished member of the Page family.

To master guns from your little cousin pretty I still remember when we were children and you were in the Marines and you would come pick up all the young men and teach us more than values on life and how to have respect for ourselves and our family I will truly miss you you are a true inspiration and I know God was in you cuz I can see him all over you rest easy cuz you'll truly be missed

Master Guns was such an inspiration to not only my kids but my kid's friends at Greenbriar. He always had a kind word and a smile when I had the opportunity to see him at school events. He was tough but caring. He showed his disappointment while also nurturing our kids to do better and be better. If my kids, especially my daughter ever gave me grief at home, I would just threaten to call Master Guns and that would usually do the trick. Master Guns, thank you for the legacy you left behind in all you instilled in the children we trusted you with. Thank you for showing what it means to be in a position of authority and also lead with compassion. The future JROTC students will never understand the legend of Master Guns. He will be missed. God has called a giant home...Tony will truly be missed. Making Tony smile or laugh was a mission of mine, he always displayed a serious look on his face, so I set out to put a smile on his face. The one thing that always did it for me, is when I said Sempi Fi to him (always faithful). He Loved God, he Loved his country and he LOVED his community. He is gone but will NEVER be forgotten.
