Willie Norman Brown, 102, was born September 8, 1923, to the late Ezra and Nona Brown. On December 2, 2025, Deacon Willie Norman Brown made his transition from his earthy home to his eternal home. He grew up in a close-knit family and was preceded in death by five siblings- Sidney Brown, Marion Brown, Elouise Thompson, Evelyn Sapp, and John Wingfield.
Willie Norman attended Lawton School in Sylvania, Georgia. He completed 9th grade. Many years later, in his eighties, he attended classes to complete his GED. On November 17, 2011, at the age of 87, Norman received an Educational Certificate from Ogeechee Technical School for completion of Introduction to Computer II course.
He became a Christian at an early age and was baptized at Lawton Grove Baptist Church, Sylvania, Georgia by Reverend J.W.H. Thomas.
He served as Chairman of Deacons’ Board, a member of the Trustee Board, Building Fund Committee, and Secretary of the church.
A committed advocate for civil rights, Willie Norman worked tirelessly to help strengthened and uplift the community around him. He served on the board for Screven County Department of Family and Children Services and received the Outstanding Service Certificate in recognition for service rendered from July 1990 to June 2000. Willie Norman also received a certificate of appreciation for his important contribution to the ongoing fight against hatred and intolerance in America. His name was added to the Wall of Tolerance in Montgomery, Alabama.
Willie Norman worked at White Stagg in Sylvania, Georgia for 13 years. He finished his working career with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice at the Youth Development Center in Augusta, Georgia where he retired December 31, 1985, with 17 years of service.
In 1944, Willie Norman married Annie Louise Zeigler, and together they built a beautiful family. From their union six children were born. He was also the proud father of Earl Jones which completed a blended family. His wife Annie Louise Zeigler and two of his children, Earl Jones and Rosemerry Taylor preceded him in death. In total Willie Norman leaves behind five children, Willie Edward (Delores), Ezra McArthur (Edna), Alfred Norman (Dr. Lucille T.), Roger Gerald (Gloria), and Carl Harold (Barbara). Also, a daughter-in- law Sandra Jones and a son-in-law Mozell Taylor.
Willie Norman also leaves behind eleven grandchildren- Denise Cooper (Bobbie), Sherry Braswell, Courtney Jones Savage, Anthony Jones (Summer), Marcus Norman Brown (Kim), Rodney C. Brown (Kelah), Derrick Brown (Sontina), Therese Ghant (Mike), Eric Delamar (Bridgetail), Andrea Caldwell (Cedric), Elizabeth Marshall (Trenton), twenty-four great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren- each a reflection of his strength, love, and legacy.
Willie Norman is also survived by four loving sisters- Earline Maulsby, Mary Shank (Roger), Georgene Crawford, and Pauline Coles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and many loving friends located here and around the world.
Viewing and visitation will be Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, December 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lawton Grove Baptist Church, 800 Newtoning Hwy., Sylvania, GA.
Interment will be in Friendship Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Sylvania, GA.
