Billie Jean Rutledge, 87, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025 at her granddaughter’s home, with her family by her side. Billie Jean was born Jan. 30, 1938 in Uvalde, Texas to Woodrow and Dorris Langford.
Billie Jean loved her childhood ranch and would often recount memories from working on the ranch and all the animals, even in her last days. Billie Jean spent most of her life in Hillsboro, New Mexico and retired from the NM State Parks. Billie Jean greatly impacted her community and was always more than willing to help those in the community and those she loved.
Billie Jean took great pride in being a grandmother and great-grandmother and was always present for her grandkids.
Billie Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Doris Langford; and her sons: Ricky and Randy Rutledge.
She is survived by her brother, Ray (Janie); sister, Janet (Jim); Grandchildren: Kayla (Michael), Emily (Alex), Daniel (Liz), and Shane Rutledge; Great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Addilee, Mikey and Grayson; and numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church of Christ on E. Third Ave. would be appreciated.
Everyone around Hillsboro and Truth or Consequences love Billie Jean. My mom, Judy Rhoads, was her bestie. Mom said in her last years while living in Denver that she wanted to come back and have Nancy and Billie take care of her. They would have taken care of each other to their dying moment. What a wonderful legacy they both leave. Thank you, sweet grandkids, for giving her last years meaning.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
