Carla Diane McCray was born on October 27, 1933 in Moberly, Missouri. She was born to Carl and Gladys Cooper of El Vado, New Mexico (both deceased). Carla was the oldest of four children. Her younger siblings are Joann Richards (deceased), Karen Garber, and David Cooper. She passed away in Elephant Butte, New Mexico on March 1, 2020. Carla was 86 years old. Carla spent her childhood years living in Missouri and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She had a love for tending and riding horses. Carla graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1952. She met her husband of 66 years, Ronald McCray, on a blind date at a drugstore in Albuquerque. They married in 1953, and Carla became a full time homemaker while Ronald operated his own dental laboratory in Albuquerque where they raised three children. Their oldest daughter, Linda Seale of Jefferson, Texas, passed away in 2012. They retired in 1992 and moved to Champagne Hills, Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Carla’s hobbies included restoring furniture and collecting antique clocks. Carla is survived by her husband, Ronald McCray, of Elephant Butte, NM; son, Mark McCray and his wife, Cathy, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and youngest daughter, Kelly Gray Bear (nee Melissa McCray) and her spouse ,Martina Gray Bear, of Vanderwagen, New Mexico; sister, Karen Garber, of Whitewater, Colorado; and brother, David Cooper, of El Vado, New Mexico. Also surviving Carla’s passing are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Carla’s viewing will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. - Noon at Kirikos Family Funeral Home Chapel, 303 N. Cedar Street, Truth or Consequences, NM. Her graveside ceremony will be held at Vista Memory Gardens in Truth or Consequences at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor William Farmer officiating.
