It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Jones, who passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025 at the age of 82. Born on November 5, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV, Gary dedicated his life to service, family, and community. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment. He participated in multiple tours to Vietnam, where he was a door gunner and helicopter pilot. He was awarded the Purple Heart 3 times, along with other distinguished service metals. He retired from the Army, after 21 years of service.
After returning home, Gary continued to serve in many ways—as a mentor, a hard worker, and a dependable friend. He was known for his kind heart, steadfast loyalty, and a sense of humor that could lift any room.
He is survived by his children- Michael Jones and wife Cassie, and Tanya Wood; 2 grandchildren- Mia and Devan Jones; siblings- Harold Jones, Lyndin Jones, and Marilyn Nickell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Jones; and his mother, Ethelda Lucille Lawless.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 2:00P.M. at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM with military honors to commemorate his service. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate a life well lived and deeply loved at the New Creations Church in Arrey following the graveside.
My sincere condolences to Michael and all of Gary's family. He was such a kind, caring, smart and talented friend to all of us . Always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.
