Jacklyn Ann McDaniel, 87, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. Jackye was born June 29, 1936 in Wheeler, TX to Hazel D. Crowder and Dorris Mary Tolliver. Jackye attended several high schools, but spoke often of the nuns at the catholic school she attended in California. We believe that much of Jackye’s character and charm were taught during her time there. After high school, she met and married Marvin L. McDaniel and the two quickly started a family. Bo and Davy were born while in the west Texas Oil Fields.
Following the unfortunate loss of virtually all the family possessions in a house fire, the family moved to Socorro, NM. It was here they started farming, thanks to Grandpa Tolliver and his generosity. A few years following the family’s relocation, a third child was born. A tragic accident took the life of Dana Ann Kathey McDaniel, at the age of three.
During the mid-1960s, the John Deere dealership in Socorro was acquired and Jackye was an active partner in the business. She was active in several civic organizations, such as the Socorro Chamber of Commerce, Civitan, the Rotary Club and local and state politics. Later in her years, she was quite involved with the Senior Olympics. She was also involved in many “Mommy” activities, such as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Housewife, Sports Mom, and her son’s band manager, where she was affectionately known as Grandma Jackye. She was also a talented event organizer, and semi-professional Clown.
Upon moving to T. or C., she was employed by Goodwill at the T. or C. Senior Center, the Geronimo Museum, and the NM Veteran’s Home. She was also involved in the Lyon’s Club and the Moose Lodge. She often spoke of the church and the people she had come to know and love within the church.
She is survived by her sons, Marvin “Bo” McDaniel and wife Kay, and Davy Jack McDaniel, Sr.; grandchildren: Leigh Ann Menchaca, Marvin “Mac” McDaniel, III, Davy Jack McDaniel, Jr., and Kevin Lee McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin McDaniel; Dorris and Robert L. Baldwin; and her daughter, Dana Ann Kathey McDaniel.
A Memorial Service will be held in Jackye’s honor on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church (220 N. Broadway St, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901) with Pastor Durward Wofford officiating.
Sending my sincere condolences to you Bo & Davy and your families. I have many fond memories of Jackye growing up in Socorro....my mom Barbara Coombs was her dear friend. I loved that Jackye kept in touch with my mom and I over the years with Christmas cards/letters/photos. She loved y'all so much! I know that I know that Aunty Jackye is in heaven right now rejoicing with Marvin, Dana Ann, her friend Barb, and many many other loved ones. I love that her memorial was on my mom's birthday. I can hear them laughing it up together in heaven. Blessings, Val (Coombs) Spillane Valrico, FL
