Jimmy Eugene “Jim” Anton, passed away peacefully in the family home, August 29, 2024. He was 80 years old. He was born to Eugene Albert “Gene” Anton and Ellen Irvine (Lucas) Anton, on October 30, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Irvine; a sister, Marilyn; and son, David.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol; daughter, Brandi Anton-Howard and husband Ren; and granddaughter, Zoe Hern. He is further survived by sisters-in-law: Diana Jarnutowski (Bob) and Dona Lopes; brothers-in-law: Edward McManus (Valerie) and Aubry McManus (Tina); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
His family moved to Hot Springs, NM in 1945 to partake of the healing waters, where they acquired the Marshall Apartments (now Paloma Hot Springs.) There he attended Hot Springs Elementary and Junior High. High school days found him in Grants, NM- where he attended Grants High School. Upon graduating he attended New Mexico State University, then transferred to Eastern New Mexico University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology in August 1969.
From there he moved to Elephant Butte to help his father complete the construction of what was then Elephant Butte Boat Storage. Elephant Butte Boat Storage was renamed Anton's Marine in 1970, and he became the owner operator and continued to be owner until present day. He attained his Mercury Master Technician Certification two years early and maintained that status for the remainder of his life.
Jim was an avid shooter, including SASS Cowboy Shooting, a hunter and for a short time a firearms dealer. Along with being the owner of Anton's Marine for 55 years, he worked for the Sierra County Sheriff's Department as a reservist for 20 years.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life held for Jim at the Adobe Shooting Range Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rio Vaqueros, Inc., (PO Box 1935, Elephant Butte, NM 87935).
