Juana Maria “Jennie” Padilla, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loved ones on May 19, 2025, at the age of 83, in Las Cruces, NM. Born on March 26, 1942, in Rodey, New Mexico to Juan and Trinidad (Molina) Bustamante. Juana was known for her strong work ethic, an unwavering commitment to caring for others, and her selfless devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. A woman of deep Catholic faith, she lived with kindness, patience and strength in all she did.
Juana dedicated her life to her family, particularly her children, Quilimaca and Alerico Benino. She was a devoted wife to Alerico “Larry” S. Padilla, and together they raised their children with love and support. Juana cherished her grandchildren – Martin, Conzuelo, Zarzita, and Zeziro – and enjoyed spending time with them.
Juana dedicated 58 years working at Sierra Vista Hospital (formerly known Saint Anne’s Hospital) in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, as a compassionate and hardworking Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). There she helped the nuns deliver babies, assisted surgeons during surgeries and made sure all her patients received outstanding care. During her spare time, Juana found joy in taking walks, gardening, shopping on QVC, and dancing. She enjoyed cooking for all occasions and, most of all, loved spending time with her family. Juana was also a generous and compassionate person, always willing to lend a helping hand to others and never hesitating to feed stray animals.
Juana is survived by her children, Quilimaca (partner Robert) and Alerico Benino (spouse Audie); grandchildren, Martin, Conzuelo, Zarzita and Zeziro; and numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alerico S. Padilla (March 31, 2012); parents, Juan M. Bustamante and Trinidad Bustamante; sisters, Ophelia Bustamante, Leola Gardner, Magdalena Armijo, and Theresa Armijo; brothers, Manuel Bustamante, Ventura Bustamante, and Concepcion Bustamante.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We will always remember the wonderful memorable times with her, and our love for her is everlasting.
A Visitation will be held at Kirikos Family Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Rosary will be recited on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Michael Williams as the officiating priest. Cremation will follow services.
I very fondly remember Jennie as such a loving caring person who always had the best interests of her patients in mind. She was truly a devoted servant to those she cared for in so many ways. As a nurse we worked together many times, and she always had a smile for everyone.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
