Salvador “Chava” Armijo, 79, a lifetime resident of Sierra County, died in Las Cruces on Thursday, April 11, 2024. He was born on October 28, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA to Esquipula and Seferina (Chavez) Armijo.
Chava enlisted in the Army National Guard in December of 1962 as an Artillery Repairman. He was stationed in Ft. Jackson, SC and received several medals, badges, and decorations. He was employed with the Sierra County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator from April 1981 until his retirement in October 2006.
He enjoyed being outdoors no matter the weather. Chava enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, going for wood, and spending time with family. He loved to hunt any chance he got, whether it was for himself, his sons, sons-in-law, or grandkids. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janie Armijo; children: Don Armijo (Davonna), Kristie Powell (John), Dannette Brownlee (Larry), Ernie Armijo (Catrina Colón), Beverly Armijo, and Zachary Armijo (Samantha McClure); 11/grandchildren; 17/great-grandchildren; and sister, Paula Privetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esquipula and Seferina C. Armijo; and brothers – Efren Armijo and Richard Armijo.
A Memorial Celebration Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery.
