Ty Joseph Ward, 29, died on Monday, February 19. He was born November 22, 1994, in Ashland, WI to David Ward and Patti Eskola.
Ty spent his childhood and youth in Durand, WI and graduated from Washburn High in Washburn, WI in 2013. Ty was incredibly smart, with a keen analytical mind and dry sense of humor. He took in the world around him like a sponge and loved technology and electronics. He attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where he took an interest in politics.
Following his time at the university he enlisted in the Navy in 2016, working as an Aviation Electronic Technician until early 2022. He spent a 10-month deployment at Kadena Air Force Base in Japan and acted as COMSEC Special Security Officer. He supervised, trained, and qualified his peers. He was an exceptional leader and technician whose commitment to the mission was invaluable.
After the Navy, Ty stayed in Jacksonville, FL studying software engineering. He spent the last six months with his dad and stepmom, Lori, in Elephant Butte, NM.
Survivors include his parents, David Ward and Patti Ward; brother, Jayson (Jessica) and nieces, Jayda and Jordyn; brother, Ryan (Ashley) and nieces, Olivia and Maya; sister, Diane Wilken (significant other, Eric Schoenberg) and nephew, Owen; and sister, Paula Ward (significant other, Eric Jensen). Other surviving family members include his uncle Steven (Susan) Ward, Aunt Susan (Terry) Gaulrapp, Aunt Nancy (Gary) Hirt, Uncle Bill (Paula) Eskola, Uncle Kenny (Stephanie) Eskola, Aunt Lonni (Jim) Pelto, Uncle Mick (Liz) Eskola; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jay and Lois Ward; maternal grandparents, Ray and June Eskola; and niece, Lucy Lindstrom.

A Memorial Celebration Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday March 23, 2024 at the American Legion 181 in Durand, WI followed by an 11:00 A.M. interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. After the interment, friends and family are invited to the American Legion to share in food and fellowship.
