William “Bill” Berry Hopkins, a loving husband and father of three, and a lifelong resident of Caballo, New Mexico, went to be with Our Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 90. Bill Hopkins was born October 8, 1933 in Caballo, New Mexico to Henry and Velma Hopkins.
Bill attended school in Caballo, NM, and graduated from Hot Springs High in May 1951. He later went on to serve his country in the Army. Soon after, on May 17, 1958, he married the sweetest girl in Sierra County, Shairlee Waldrop. Bill worked hard throughout the years at various jobs at the lodge, ranching, and helping raise three children.
Bill was one of a kind. He loved his family with all his heart and his grandkids were the light of his life. He spent all his life in Sierra County often known as the man you didn’t want to be stuck behind on the road. He was a small-town man who loved the small-town life, wrangler jeans and a cowboy hat. He was the type of man that if he wanted to talk to you, he would come see you, short visits were his thing.
Bill was preceded in death by his, wife, Shairlee Hopkins; mother, Velma Hopkins; father, Henry Hopkins; brother, Ed Hopkins; and grandson, Tanner Austin Kuenstler “TAK”.
He is survived by his three kids, Kimberley Dennison, Hank Hopkins (KeliKay) and Shawna Gunter (Rusty); seven grandchildren - Laynee Kuenstler (Tanner), Coby Dennison (Kili), Christian Hopkins, Sealy Chavez (Regan), Bailey Sanchez (Benji), Annie Kuenstler and Kade Hopkins; seven great-grandchildren - Brynn and Wacen Chavez, Landon Jackson, Izzy and Esly Sanchez, and Scarlett and Kennedy Dennison; sister, Judy Smith; and brother, Dale Hopkins.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 3-4 PM at Kirikos Family Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Caballo Church at 10:00 A.M. with Brett Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Caballo Cemetery.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Christian Hopkins, Kade Hopkins, Coby Dennison, Regan Chavez, Benji Sanchez and Tanner Fischer. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Sam Barrera, Ron Brown, Earl Taylor, Horacio Armijo, and Forest Hill.
A covered dish reception will follow at the Caballo Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Bill’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital by phone at 800-478-5833 or online at www.stjude.org.

Bill and Sharilee Hopkins were two of the finest people I have known. I will truly miss Bill, he was always willing to visit with a smile. He is one of the last of the true cowboys, my Dad, Troy Hart, was another one. God Bless all of Bill's family. Jean and Wayne Tatman
