Catherine Cooper McLaurin was born July 24, 1940, in Humphrey County, Mississippi, to the late John and Joanna Cooper. She was the youngest of five siblings; Lula Turner Erwin, Ora Lee Johnson, Edna Cooper and John C. Cooper, all preceded her in death. She peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord in the early morning of June 27, 2024.
From an early age, Catherine accepted Christ as her personal savior at Watson Chapel in Humphrey County, MS under the leadership of the late Pastor Brown. She generously shared her gifts with many churches throughout the Mississippi Delta, serving with a heart of faith and devotion.
Catherine received her education in the Humphrey County school system and furthered her studies at the Saints Academy College in Lexington, Mississippi.
She was renowned for her beautiful and soulful voice and often invited to sing in many churches she entered. Her servant's heart and commitment to helping others were evident in her actions, whether through her dedication to delivering food to family, friends and those in need.
Her professional life included several years in Home Health Care, where she provided excellent and compassionate care to her clients until her retirement.
Catherine leaves behind nine children to cherish her memory: Loretta Wilkes (Michael) of Tchula, MS; Ledell Cooper of Lexington, MS; Lionel Cooper of Chicago, IL; Henry Cooper (Rilla) of Yazoo City, MS, Griffin McLaurin(Glenda)of Huntsville, AL; Artimease McLaurin of Tchula, MS; Gregory McLaurin(Shirley) of Greenwood, MS; Tyrone McLaurin(Bettie Ann, who preceded her in death) of Killeen, TX and Cotrina Cunningham of Canton, MS who served as her caregiver for the past three years. Catherine's legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces nephews and other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
