Lorraine Ella Stewart
Obituary: Lorraine Ella Stewart was born March 3, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, leaving behind a life rooted in faith, family, curiosity, laughter, and love.
Lorraine was the daughter of Evelyn and Edward Lucas Sr., whose love and guidance helped shape the woman she became. She grew up in a large and loving family alongside her six brothers, Edward Jr., Raymond, Donald, Fred, Phillip, and Clifford. Those early family bonds remained important throughout her life, and her family continued to grow through nieces, nephews, and extended relatives who became part of her story. She is survived by her brothers, Fred and Clifford, and many loving family members who will cherish her memory.
On January 16, 1954, Lorraine and Clayton Stewart were married, and together they shared more than 50 years of marriage. They were blessed with three children, Monty, Cheryl, and Lance. Through her son Lance and his wife, Suzette, she became the proud grandmother of Alex, Samantha “Sam”, Danielle, and Katie. Her husband, Clayton, preceded her in death.
Lorraine loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor, finding joy and wit in life's everyday moments and helping those around her do the same. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She cherished worshiping with her church family and treasured traveling with them. One of the most meaningful experiences of her life was a trip to Israel, where she was rebaptized in the Jordan River.
She had a strong work ethic and showed her family what dedication and perseverance looked like. She worked hard throughout her life, often enduring long commutes to her job with the telephone company, because supporting and caring for her family was a natural expression of her love and devotion. Her determination left a lasting impression on her children.
Lorraine had an inquisitive mind and was always eager to learn. Over the years, she developed a deep interest in nutrition, healthy soil and the connection between the food we eat and our health. She enjoyed sharing what she learned with family and friends.
In her retirement years, she found her fountain of youth in spending time with her beloved grandchildren, lovingly caring for them and creating memories they will cherish forever. She delighted in sharing her faith with them, introducing them to God's love through the timeless lessons of VeggieTales. Whether gathered around the table working on one of the many jigsaw puzzles she loved, venturing to the park, or simply enjoying each other’s company, she treasured every moment with her grandchildren.
In her final years, Lorraine lived with her son, Monty, who cared for her with love and devotion.
